The TP9 factory grip is designed to suit a wide range of hand sizes, which makes it a capable starting point. In competition, the goal is different: not "suits a wide range" but "fits your hand specifically." Aftermarket grips for the TP9 give you texture that holds through a full stage with sweaty or wet hands, geometry adjusted to your palm and finger length, and often a thumb shelf for a fixed lateral reference on every draw.
